An Incredibly Talented Country Singer/Songwriter…
I’d been meaning to write about Taylor Swift for a long while now and it seems like after the Kanye West incident at the MTV Music Video Awards, there couldn’t be a better time to explain my praises for this amazingly talented singer/songwriter.
It might be easy to pass this singer off as a pretty girl who sings about love stories in a country-music genre instead of pop, but if it were only that, you could mention plenty of others including the famous Miley Cyrus (who is admirable in her own way but I couldn’t agree is a “good singer”). However, this girl deliberately chose to sing Country music and is responsible for bringing back to the forefront of pop culture to today’s young generation, but not only that, Taylor Swift seriously and fully understands her art form and tells a story in each song. Any real singer will tell you that her songs are a mouthful and take a great deal of practice to sing as smoothly and effortlessly as she does, and it is that unforceful, storytelling music that makes you want to listen to her songs over and over again in the same way that Frank Sinatra’s songs never get old.
It is no accident that MTV, for all of their pop and rap-flooded “music” decided Taylor Swift deserved this music video award, not only because it is a good music video but because the video accompanied by her lyrics and music could have nothing more natural paired together. In case you are wondering which music video won the award, here’s a link: “You Belong With Me”
Anyway, the song that I really wanted to write about is titled “Change” (Video below). It reminds me of the Berlin Wall and the significance of its fall when the world all of a sudden believed for a moment that nothing was impossible. I believe Taylor is now taking it upon herself to write songs about more than boy-loves-girl and she seems to be maturing into a heck of a country singer. Here’s the lyrics to follow along with while listening to Taylor’s special song on her new album, Fearless. Huge congrats to Taylor Swift for her award and best of luck to her future successes!
And it’s a sad picture, the final blow hits you
Somebody else gets what you wanted again
You know it’s all the same, another time and place
Repeating history and you?re getting sick of itBut I believe in whatever you do
And I’ll do anything to see it throughBecause these things will change, can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
It’s a revolution, the time will come for us to finally winWe’ll sing hallelujah!
We’ll sing hallelujah! OhSo we’ve been outnumbered, raided and now cornered
It’s hard to fight when the fight ain’t fair
We’re getting stronger now from things they never found
They might be bigger but we’re faster and never scaredYou can walk away, say we don’t need this
But there’s something in your eyes says we can beat this‘Cause these things will change, can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
It’s a revolution, the time will come for us to finally winWe’ll sing hallelujah!
We’ll sing hallelujah! OhTonight we stand, get off our knees
To fight for what we worked for all these years
And the battle was long, it was the fight of our lives
Will we stand up champions tonight? It was the night things changed, can you see it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back fell down
It’s a revolution, throw your hands up, ’cause we never gave inAnd we’ll sing hallelujah!
We sang hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
